Info Post

“Nothing Compares 2 U” was an insta-classic smash for Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor in 1990, but pop history buffs will of course remember that the song was written (and often performed live) by the legendary Prince Rogers Nelson. One person who remembers this piece of trivia is fellow soul immortal Mary J. Blige, who brought out Prince during her performance at the iHeartRadio Festival for a duet on “Compares,” including a ripping guitar solo from the Purple One.

The chemistry and back-and-forth between the two is a blast (“Tell me Mary—where did Prince go wrong??“), and it’s an unparalleled treat to get to see the two powerhouse vocalists take on a song so soulful. Now we want to see an entire Best of Both Worlds tour with the two—or at the very least, Mary returning the favor during a Prince show with a duet on her “Real Love.” How badass would that be?
