Info Post

It’s been mentioned before, but it’s worth saying again: The Voice has been very, very good for the careers of its four hosts, particularly in the collaboration department. If you’re a struggling artist who’s fallen off the A List, why not put Adam Levine or Cee Lo on your track? It’s a low-risk move, and it gets you guaranteed exposure, when you’re inevitably invited onto the NBC hit to perform your song alongside whatever chart-topping member of the judging panel that was most demographically suited to your needs.

That’s a cynical reading, but there is just something about 50 Cent’s performance of his new single “My Life” on the show last night that brings out the cynic in us. Is it the raw calculation involved in Adam Levine’s guest appearance, or the JV squad vibe brought on by Eminem’s noticeable absence? (Em appears on the recorded version of the song, but he didn’t appear last night because, well, because he’s Eminem and it’s The Voice.) Either way, it’s dispiriting—”My Life” is actually a pretty good song, and we shouldn’t blame it for the circumstances of its creation. Check it out below!
