Info Post

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett might not be the original odd couple or anything—they’re both New Yorkers, they both have Italian roots, they both are consummate showpeople—but we wouldn’t necessarily have expected the two to find such a personal connection that they were gonna go all Watch the Throne on us. Tony and Gaga originally hooked up for a collaboration on Tony’s “Lady is a Tramp” for the legendary singer’s recent Duets II album, then Tony sketched Gaga naked for a Vanity Fair spread. Somewhere in there, the duo found enough chemistry that they decided an entire album together might be a good idea.

“Of all things, she called me from New Zealand and said, ‘I want to do a jazz album with you,’” Bennett told Rolling Stone of his dialogue with Gaga. “And I said, ‘You got it!’” (That sounds like a song already, doesn’t it?) The album will apparently consist of songs written by a “very underrated, very famous” jazz songwriter, somebody Bennett says is “not as famous as Gershwin or Porter … but he did as many hit songs as anybody,” though he’s keeping the name a secret for the time being.

Well, we hope Gaga at least gets ARTPOP out into the world before she turns her focus to being a full-time hip cat, but this could provide some great multi-generation listening for family get-togethers this holiday season should it come out in time.
